Game Changer Pitch - “Price Check”

Logline: Contestants play The Price Is Right–style games to guess the real, actual sale prices of nostalgic (and weird) items from eBay and beyond — culminating in the winner being reunited with a beloved childhood toy.

Status: Spec pitch

  • Bits:

    • Cold open: “THIS FURBY” both on the screen and on a table physically in the space as the first prompt to set the stage —what do they do?

      • If someone gives a price, and is under —they’re onto something!

      • If they’re all over, we move on to another item, but they’ll probably get it at that point.

    • Reuse the wheel from Rulette

      • Land on comedic throwbacks

        • Write a jingle for this Beanie Baby

        • Make that coffee commercial not-incestuous

    • Bed, Bath, or Bust

      • Core Mechanic: Players guess if an item's actual price is more, less, or the same as the one shown.

      • Theme: Nostalgic bedding or home décor (e.g. vintage TMNT sheets, Little Mermaid bathroom decor)

      • Tone: Ridiculous — too much importance placed on whether that fitted sheet is $13 or $26.

    • Back to School - The Inflation Game

      • Core Mechanic: Players have to figure out the percentage change between the prices in a 1995 Staples circular and modern day.

      • Theme: Lisa Frank trapper keepers, glitter gel pens, Power Rangers Halloween pencils, etc.

      • Tone: So mathy.

  • Showcase Showdown

    • All three play rather than eliminating one

    • Total cost of recreating your childhood bedroom without going over

    • Before filming, producers secretly track down each contestant’s most beloved childhood toy and buy it online (within reason)

      • Optional twist: If budget allows, even runners-up get consolation toys

  • Cast:

    • Brennan Lee Mulligan

      • Encyclopedic knowledge of toys, commercial jingles, and obscure trivia

      • Absolutely holding in a passionate rant about how eBay ruined Beanie Babies

      • Would have a genuine emotional meltdown of viral proportions if reunited with a childhood toy he thought was long gone

    • Ally Beardsley

      • Chaotic goblin energy, perfect for big swings on price guesses (“$10,000…no, Brennan went high. $1.)

      • Will absolutely lose it over weird shit.

      • Comedic foil for Brennan’s know-it-all.

    • Zac Oyama

      • Savage one-liners to balance the rest of the energy coming from Ally and Brennan.

      • Will quietly panic in the Showcase Showdown.

I have more ideas! Let’s brainstorm.
